Foundation

Establishment

The Hans and Ilse Breuer Foundation was established in 2000 by Hans Breuer, a businessman.

An important impetus for the creation of the Foundation stemmed from the painful experience when the family Breuer itself encountered Alzheimer’s disease.

Like most people, who are suddenly and unexpectedly confronted with dementia in the family circle, their situation is also characterised by a lack of knowledge and overload, a feeling of helplessness and powerlessness.

Both the burden and difficulties in dealing with the disease and its symptoms, as well as the feeling of being helpless, led Hans Breuer and his family to tackle the issue and to get involved in the fight against Alzheimer and other dementia related diseases.

A Growing Threat

In Germany alone, over one million people suffer from one kind or another of dementia related diseases.

Most of those affected suffer from Alzheimer. Against the background of a constantly aging society, the conservative estimates for the number of people affected by the disease will have more than doubled by the year 2050. There is yet no cure for the disease.

It is therefore essential that sustainable results be reached in order to stop the dramatic increase in dementia related diseases.
